The UCLA Fibroid Treatment Program is a unique, multidisciplinary approach which offers unrivaled expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of uterine fibroids. Our mission is to provide sophisticated, individualized, and collaborative care for women with Uterine Fibroids.
Our Program
We combine the efforts of multiple specialists, our team includes Gynecologists, Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologists, Family Physicians, and Holistic Medicine Specialist who work together to evaluate each patient's individual concerns and offer education and treatment options tailored accordingly. Our program promotes patient education and emphasizes the importance of collaborative care.
We believe that the UCLA Fibroid Treatment Program is a unique solution for women to access individualized, non-traditional care for fibroid related symptoms. Together we create a treatment plan that promotes a long term relationship of health, trust, and communication. Steven S. Raman, MD
Associate Professor of Radiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine.
Dr. Raman co-director of the Fibroid Treatment Program at UCLA, he specializes in MRI guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS)
Christopher M. Tarnay, MD
Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine
Dr. Tarnay co-director of the Fibroid Treatment Program at UCLA, is a recognized authority in the specialty urogynecology and laparoscopic minimally invasive surgery. He is an experienced Da Vinci surgeon offering uterine and fertility sparing surgical options for patients with fibroids.
Michael Johnson, MD
Vice Chair, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology
Dr. Johnson co-director of the Fibroid Treatment Program at UCLA, brings nearly 20 years of education and experience to the UCLA Fibroid Treatment Program, he is leader in the medical community and an equally strong advocate for empowering women through education.
Antoinette Gomes, MD
Interventional Radiologist & Professor of Radiological Sciences and Medicine, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
Dr. Gomes is one of the longest practicing Interventional Radiologist performing Uterine Fibroid Embolizations. Her experience and skill is unrivaled and, she continues to be an intricate component in medical research which benefits the lives of both men and women worldwide.
Cheryl Hoffman, MD
Associate Professor of Radiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine
Dr. Hoffman's area of expertise is the Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) Treatment.
David Lu, MD
Professor of Radiology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA
Dr. Lu is one of the founding physicians of the Fibroid Treatment Program at UCLA. He specializes in MRI guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS). His philosophy of excellence through synergy between cutting edge imaging techniques and innovations in intervention remains a driving factor in the delivery of patient care and clinical outcomes for the Fibroid Center.
Mousa Shamonki, MD
Assistant Professor of Gynecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine
Dr. Shamonki is the Director of the UCLA InVitro Fertilization Division. He specializes in Fibroid treatment as well as various other gynecological complications.
